Paintings

We are extremely fortunate and grateful, to have been presented with two paintings from Andrew Graham, the son of one of our former Ministers Rev John Graham who served the community of Clermiston St Andrew’s from 1960 until 1985.

The first is of the interior of St Andrew’s Drumsheugh by

K.M.Mattison, dated 1865, over one hundred and fifty years ago.

In 1886 the congregation transferred to a newly erected building in Drumsheugh Gardens at the west end.

Following the union between the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, in 1929, it was renamed Edinburgh St Andrew’s Drumsheugh, Church of Scotland.

They were then united when this congregation was formed in 1955 as St Andrew’s Clermiston.

The second is by a local resident, Mr C. Syme and is dated the 1st September 1963. At the time, he lived in the first house next to the bus terminus at the top of the Drumbrae Drive looking towards the church. As you will see there are no houses at the side, as at the time both sides of the church were green grass.

Both Paintings will be on display in St Andrew’s Clermiston and all are welcome to come and view them.
