We at St Andrew’s Clermiston are very proud of our colourful logo that was designed by The Rev Hayley Cohen who was our probationary Minister between 2019-2020.  Hayley has since been ordained and is now the Minister at Northesk Parish Church in Musselburgh. Below she tells us about what inspired her when putting it together.

When creating the logo for St Andrew's, I thought about the defining features of St Andrew's, it's place of significance within the community, and symbols and stories of the Christian faith.

The rainbow-coloured droplets mirror the rainbow windows at the front of the church, which were created  in honour of one of our member's.

The rainbow is a symbol taken from the story of Noah and the Flood. After the flood, God places a rainbow in the sky as a promise that God will never flood the earth again. It is a symbol of hope and of God's everlasting covenant with humanity.

The raindrop shape symbolises the waters of that flood and the cleansing waters of baptism, which unite us as a Church in Christ.

In the centre stands an image of the church's bell-tower, designed by Sir Basil Spence. The St. Andrew's bell-tower is a feature of Clermiston. It can be seen and heard from throughout the community and each Sunday, the bell is rung to remind people not only that church is starting, but that God is present with the community.

St Andrew's will always hold a special place in my heart and it was a privilege to design their logo and to see it embraced so wholeheartedly.
